After being burned ourselves on some bunk dyed turquoise, we're fortunate to have found a connection right to the Kingman Mine in Arizona!!! Kingman turquoise is best known for its gentle and deep sky blue shades. The presence of copper within the gem is what provides these blue variations.
The Kingman turquoise mine, operated by the Colbaugh family in Arizona, is the last remaining commercially producing mine in the United States. Evidence suggests turquoise was mined in the surrounding areas dating as far back as 600 AD.
Turquoise has been used in jewelry nearly as long as it’s been known to humanity. Turquoise is also used as a ceremonial or decorative stone, a practice dating back to ancient times. It’s been used in Native American crafts and jewelry for centuries. It was sacred to many tribes, including the Apache, Navajo, Pueblo, and Zuni.
